Yay!! Precious Baby ~ Power Poppy

Happy, Happy Friday!!!  I am so ready for the weekend, and I'm super excited to share today's card with you.  It has been a LONG time since I went full blown "distress mode" on a card.  Years I think.  And it was so much fun!!!  I have a baby shower to attend for one of my nieces this weekend, and she's from an antique loving family.  Her colors were navy and gray, so I thought I'd lean towards grays for this baby card.  I added some yellows to make it a little more happy.

I used Power Poppy's Precious Baby stamp set.  This image includes a set of baby blocks, but I didn't think they fit well proportionally on the card, so I just cut them off.  Easy peasy.  Below is a close up of the image.

For the inside, I used another of the sentiments included in this set.

Color Blocked Sunset Sway ~ Power Poppy

 

Happy, Happy Friday!!!  I am so excited to share this card with you today.  Most of the time...seriously, almost every time...I have an idea, start to implement it, and my card takes a number of different turns, not even close to where my idea started.  But today's card...went exactly as planned, and I'm so happy with the result.

I started by printing out Power Poppy's Sunset Sway image onto X-Press It blending cardstock.  I then diecut it to the size I wanted.  Then, using a clear ruler and pencil, I lightly added some blocking to the background.  After I had the design I wanted, I colored the background with Copic Markers, starting with the darkest of the colors by the lines, and lightening as I went out.  (Except for behind the flowers: the darkest areas are close to the petals and leaves.)  Then, using my Copic 0 (blending marker) I used the wedge side to make bricks. (I learned this from Jennifer Dove at Boot Camp...so many techniques to learn there.)  For the turquoise and orange background, I blotted Copic blending solution very lightly using a slightly doused natural sponge.

Now, for the Sunset Sway image. I printed it out two times so I could color the flowers separately, burnish them (Click HERE for the burnishing technique tutorial I posted to the Power Poppy blog), and pop up the petals on the main image.  But, before I added the flowers,  I stamped the sentiment, on the bottom, using the clear stamp set Pure Prairie Spirit, and splattered some black and white acrylic paint to the background.

Below I hope you can see the dimension to the flowers and butterfly.  I glued down the bases of each and added dimensional tape to the petals and butterfly wings.  Lastly, I added the Versamark stamped and embossed sentiment "dear friend" from the Always Here Power Poppy clear stamp set, after distressing the edges, as well as all the edges of the main panel.

Natural Beauties ~ Power Poppy

 
Hello my creative friends!!!  I hope you are all doing well and have been finding a ton of inspiration all around you.  Before I talk about my post though, I have to just say, my heart goes out to all those in the Midwest states who are suffering such rigid temperatures.  I experienced a -60 degree (with windchill) day while in college in the 1980's, and it isn't a day I would ever choose to revisit, that's for sure.  I'm praying you all stay warm and safe!!!

Now, for today's card.  I thought I'd bring a little sunshine and love with Spring flowers framed with a heart.  I used Power Poppy's Natural Beauties stamp set.  I colored the image with Copics, and  diecut a heart out of a 5 1/4 x 5 1/4" piece of cardstock.  I then added bricks that I diecut using one of Tim Holtz's Mixed Media #4 Brick Thinlits.  I diecut a separate piece, laid the negative over my piece of cardstock and glued the pieces inside their frames.  I then removed the negative diecut piece and voila...you get a brick background.  I hope that all just made sense.  I also added some sweet little Clear Drops that I got from Studio Katia.

Through the Woods ~ Power Poppy

Isn't this little tree in a bucket just adorable?  It's from one of Power Poppy's newest Christmas sets called Through the Woods.  I kind of did a "no-line" coloring technique.  Now, it's not totally no-line because I used too dark of a gray to stamp the image.  Thus the gray outlined birds, stars and white ornaments.  It worked for the bucket and tree though.  Below is a close up so you can see how I added White Nuvo Crystal Drops with some Cool Highlights Transparent Microfine glitter (Glitter Ritz) for some dimension.  I hope you can see the sparkle.

By sharing this ultimate close-up, you can also see my marker flicks on the branches, and where I missed some.  Man, I wish my eyes could see this close up while coloring.  Because the image is only about 4" high, I was doing a lot of guess work while coloring the tree. I even used a magnifier to make sure I got the black lines added correctly, on the bucket, with a multi-liner.

Wild Miraculous Mushrooms ~ Power Poppy

I was blessed to be able to attend Jennifer Dove's Boot camp last weekend and Power Poppy was one of the sponsors.  Jennifer shared some of her techniques to color the mushroom caps, but I was unable to finish the entire image while there.  So, I finished this baby up today.  I combined the digital image from Miraculous Mushrooms with the sentiment from the clear set Wild Mushrooms.  Everything was colored with Copics, and then die cut with Scored and Pierced Rectangles (Spellbinders)

If you ever get a chance to attend one of Jennifer's Boot camps, I highly recommend doing so.  Not only did I learn A TON, but I had a blast doing so.  Everyone is so helpful and entertaining at the same time.

Painting Pumpkins ~ Power Poppy

Hello everyone!!  I hope your Friday is off to a great start.  I have a super fun new digital image, from Power Poppy, to share with you today.  It's called Painting Pumpkins, and true to Marcy, it's so creative.  It's my Daughter-in-law's birthday tomorrow, and her favorite color is purple.  So when I saw this new digital image I immediately decided I was going to "paint" one of the pumpkins purple.  Why not?  It took me awhile to get the color combo the way I wanted it.  The tall skinny pumpkin?  Well...it started out aqua, then I tried a pale orange, and ended up with it being rose colored.  It's always a process for me.  

My card is pretty straight forward today.  So I'm going to just give you the links to the other gals who have projects to share with you this weekend.

Fortune's of Fall ~ Power Poppy

Happy Friday y'all!!  Are you as ready for the weekend as I am?  I hope you've been enjoying all the Power Poppy Natural Wonders previews.  Don't you just love Marcella's creativity?  Each set is phenomenal, and today's is no exception.  We are featuring a charming set called Fortune's of Fall.  It includes 3 Fall images and 5 beautiful sentiments.  I chose to work with the Zinnias.  I had so much fun coloring the different vases and each unique zinnia!

My card is pretty straight forward.  No unique techniques were used.  I just colored everything with Copics and framed them.  I did add some white highlights to the terra cotta pot and turquoise one by using a white gel pen.  That's it.

O Hoppy Day ~ Power Poppy

 

 

Howdy everyone!!!  I hope you are enjoying the Power Poppy Previews.  I tell you, these stamp sets are so fun to work with.  I just adore Marcella's unique twists to her images.  Today, I'm sharing two cards that feature Ales.  This set is called O Hoppy Day, and it has already come in handy for me a couple of times.  I chose to make my first card a Dark Ale.  Now, if I'm honest, I have to tell you, about a year ago I didn't know there were much differences to beers because I don't drink them.  Now, my son makes his own beer and is starting a garden to grow hops, so I know more than I ever wanted to.  hahahaha  

Below, you can see I popped the glass up to give it some dimension.

I love the bottle caps that Marcy included in this set, so I decided to make my first card a tri-fold card and include a belly band with the bottle cap on the front.  I just adore that sentiment!!!  I also stamped the barley in a pattern on kraft cardstock for the front of the card.  It's so easy to do with a Misti, and if you don't have one, the stamps are clear, so it's much easier to line them up precisely.

For my second card I needed a lighter Ale for a Brother-in-law.  I included some foam on top by adding some Liquid Applique.  I thought it was a super fun and effective addition.

Below you can see how I made the foam spill over the side using the Liquid Applique.

For the inside, I just had to include the bottle cap again.  I can't help myself.  It's so perfect!

Kindness is the Way ~ Power Poppy

Hello creative friends!!!  I hope your Friday is off to a beautiful start!!  We are finally cooling down in the Central Valley of California and it is soooooo welcomed!!  Now, we just need to get all the fires under control.  We are not in any threat of fires because we are in the center of farming country, but since we live in a valley, all the smoke and smog settles here.  We have a conundrum.  Rain and breezes would be nice to get rid of the smoke, but would be horrible for our crops.  *sigh*  Anyway...we are back in the 90's and we are even looking forward to some days in the actual 80's.  I don't even know if I remember what that feels like.  

On to my card, which is what you dropped by for in the first place.  I'm a bit late to the party with this fabulous (FREE for always) digital image, called Kindness is the Way, that Power Poppy released a little over a month ago.  Gerberas are one of my absolute favorite flowers.  And there is such a variety of colors to them that this image has unlimited possibilities.  

I thought it would be fun to just have color in the centers and sentiment, so I started by coloring the entire background with my Black Copic 100.

I then colored the individual flowers using grays and blues.  I colored the letters on a separate piece of X-Press It cardstock, cut them out and popped them up over the main piece in which I colored the letters all black so they would have a shadow when popped.
