Tutorial ~ Stuffed Organza Yo-yo Flower

Last week I made a card with a stuffed organza yo-yo flower, and have been asked to do a tutorial. So I'd like to share with you, today, how I made this flower.

I love making flowers out of paper, fabric, ribbon, lace, and more, and thought it would be fun to fill an organza yo-yo flower with some embellishments. The first time around (a photo is at the end of this post), I stuffed it with some Mellissa Frances Glass Glitter. This time around, I thought it would be fun to fill it with some pearl and crystal glass beads. The organza is darker, so it's harder to see, and the flower is smaller (I used a 3" diecut circle), but I like how it turned out. And it's super easy!!

All you need is a circle of organza fabric (cut it twice the width you would like it to be ~ mine was 3" in diameter. ), a needle with matching thread, and whatever you'd like to fill it up with. You can use fibers, confetti, beads, rhinestones, pearls...shoot, you could even fill it with some potpourri.

Stitch around the outside of your circle with large basting stitches. (Don't stitch too close to the edge though because the fabric could fray.)

Pull the strings together to gather up the flower into a circle...I stuffed it before securing the thread.

Then just embellish and add it to your card.

I have a wedding to attend this weekend, and thought this elegant stuffed organza yo-yo would work beautifully for a wedding card. I used this week's Waltzingmouse sketch for some inspiration. I'd like to encourage you to participate in the WMS sketch challenge too. We'd love to see how you're inspired. All the stamps used are from the Waltzingmouse stamps sets: Say it Loud and Compact Sentiments

Here are the sweet little tickets with the sentiments stamped on them.

Here's a look at the first stuffed organza flower I made and posted last week.

That's it for today ya'll. I hope you're having a nice week.
Happy Stamping!!

Black on Black Inspiration Motivation

6+ years ago, I joined the online stamping community called Splitcoaststampers and have met some of the most talented, warm-hearted, and generous women a person could be blessed to know. One of those such women is my dear, dear friend Laurie, known as Lauraly on Splitcoast. Her blog is Just Give Me Stamps.  We've been friends for over 5 years and awhile back we used to set up challenges for each other.  Well, while talking the other day, I happened to be on pinterest and noticed a pinner had pinned a lot of black on black and black on gray images.  Laurie makes beautiful, beautiful cards using that color palette.  So, based on that inspiration, we decided to challenge ourselves to use just that color combo with a "splash" of color.  Now, my card doesn't include a splash...more like a drip of pink, but I did get the black on black.  ;)

I started off by creating the cameo medallion using the Waltzingmouse set Cameo Creations.  The frame is embossed with silver ep, and the silhouette with black ep.

The background panel is hard to see with all the embellishing on the front, but I embossed a border image, from the set Paris Nouveau, with black ep onto Smokey Shadow PTI cardstock.  The sentiment is from the WMS set Teeny Trees.

I made the little Yo-yo Organza flower with some pink organza fabric, and before closing it up, I added some Pink Glass Glitter by Melissa Frances. I finished it off with a Pearl Vintage Button by Basicgrey.

Did you notice the Black Millinery Netting behind the cameo?  I think that stuff is so cool, and gives some fun texture to my card.  I got the black netting, as well as some white from a fabulous online store called The Funkie Junkie.  If you like vintage embellishments, you really should check out this store!!

I also used quite a bit of dies on this vintage inspired card:  Romantic Rectangles, Floral Ovals, and Persian Accents by Spellbinders, and Nested Sentiment dies by JustRite Stamps.

Lastly, I added a crystal rhinestone flourish from Zva Creative, and a few pearls from Pizzazz Aplenty.  And that's it.

Be sure to stop by and see what Laurie came up with for our black on black Inspiration motivation.  That girl has more stamping skills in her little finger, than I could ever dream of having.  So if you're looking to be inspired, or motivated to try this color combo, be sure to head on over to Just Give Me Stamps for a peek at her project.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Be sure to stop by on the 22nd.  I have a Verve project to share with ya'll that day.

Happy Stamping my friends!!

April's Waltzingmouse Blog Party!!

Have you joined the Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party before? If not, I'd like to encourage you to participate this week. The theme is "New Beginnings ~ Baby or Wedding". All you have to do is the following:

1. link your project HERE, using a direct link URL
2. include something related to the theme
3. use Waltzingmouse Stamps images

For my card today, I used the latest Waltzingmouse sketch found HERE. If you're looking for inspiration, let me tell you, the WMS Mischief makers are some of the most creative stampers out there if you ask me. They never cease to inspire me with their innovative ideas!!

Now, my card is pretty CAS (Clean and Simple), but I did use 5 different stamp sets, and 3 dies, along with a circle punch. Hard to believe eh? Here's a list of the Waltzingmouse Stamps I used: Heirloom Patterns, Holiday Label No. 14, Frame it, Teeny Trees, and Make Your Mark
The dies I used were: Labels 14 and Nested Pennants (Spellbinders), and a Small Scallop die by "a muse".

Now, I always stamp a signature image on the back of all the cards I give away; whether it be my name, or an appropriate sentiment. Claire has a fabulous set designed to fit perfectly for whatever type of project you've created. It's called, appropriately, Make Your Mark, and this is just one of the images included.

That's it for me today. Be sure to stop by the Waltzingmouse Makes Blog for the party. :) We'd love to see your interpretation of this month's theme.

Happy stamping!!

Verve April Release Spotlight Hop ~ Day 3

It's day three of this week's Verve Spotlight hop, and we got to choose the sets we wanted to peek. Not only that, the new release goes on sale today, and one lucky commenter from today will win the entire release!! How awesome is that!!!

Well, I chose to use the set Purely Sentimental because it has a perfectly masculine sentiment for a young man graduating from college. And, I happen to have a son that's doing just that in a few weeks. :)

So, I paired the Purely Sentimental sentiment with some fabulously fun Postale 7 Gypsies paper, and came up with this card using this week's Viva la Verve sketch designed by, the sweet and creative diva, Janelle.

I used the new Ribbon Banner die for the panel in the upper corner, along with an arrow from My Mind's Eye's FunDay decorative Brads.

I stamped the sentiment onto a Journal Ticket by 7 gypsies and added a couple of Prima wooden buttons.

Here's another angle. See the little Tim Holtz paper clip attached to the banner? Love those little clips. :)

eta: The notched circle was made using the Spellbinders' Scallop Circle die, and diecutting off the tips of the scallops with a slightly smaller Standard Circle die.

That's it for me today. Don't forget to leave comments on each blog for an opportunity to win the entire release today. The prize deadline is Monday April 16 at 6 PM Mountain Time, winners will be announced here on the Verve Blog Tuesday April 17. The stamps and dies are available for purchase this morning.

Verve April Release Spotlight Hop ~ Day 2

It's Day 2 of our Verve Stamps Spotlight, and we're featuring 2 sets, a flower Plain Jane, and a new die: Small Celebrations, Super Dad, Fringe Flower PJ, and Ribbon Banner die

Alright, Julee has designed the sweetest Ribbon Banner die and some wonderful masculine sentiments that fit inside. I thought it would be fun to use the Super Dad set with some denim fabriepage by Canvas corp. I just stamped the coordinating banner image, sentiment and stars with Versamark, and embossed them with White and Black ep, distressed it a bit, and added it to the denim panels that I sewed to some white cardstock. Lastly I added some star brads by Stampin' Up!.

Clean and Simple.

Here's a close-up of the Ribbon Banner die with coordinating images.

That's it for me today. Now keep hopping to the other diva's blogs for some more inspiration with this set. By leaving a comment on each blog, you increase your chances of winning today's releases. So don't forget to leave some lovin' along the way. :)

Verve April Release Spotlight Hop

Hey there stampers!! Verve is releasing four new sets and a Plain Jane on Friday, and we get to share some peeks with you the next few days. Today we're featuring the two sets Joyful Blooms and Purely Sentimental. The flowers from the Joyful Blooms set have a die to match now too, appropriately called Joyful Blooms die. ;) Woot!! I stamped the flower, with Versamark, onto some Authentique dp, embossed it with white ep, and layered it. I stamped the leaves, from the set Bloom and Grow (Verve), with Sage (a muse), and diecut them with the Elegant Leaves die (Verve). The sentiment was diecut with one of the Charming Ovals die (Verve)., and I framed it with a diecut Floral Oval and Classic Oval die from Spellbinders.

edt: I forgot to mention that I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch for the inspiration of this card.

That about sums up my card for today. Be sure to visit tomorrow. I have a denim masculine card to share.

I'm the last stop, but here's the hop order in case you missed a stop along the way. Now that would be a shame because these girls are full of inspirational ideas. Be sure that you leave comments along the way. One lucky commenter will receive the sets and dies featured today.

Faith Banner

Hello my friends!! I have a Waltzingmouse sketch card to share with you today...being that it's Saturday. The WMS Mischief have some wonderful inspirations to share with you too. Click HERE to see their take on the sketch.

Now, let me explain real quick that I messed up. :) I had this card all ready to go for this week's sketch and realized I forgot to make my middle panel smaller, and the bottom piece really doesn't fit with the sketch...sigh...but I did get the banners. ;)

Anyway, I made my banner using the sweet Victorian Alphabet. I LOVE the font, and the sweet little extras included in this set. Claire really has an eye for detail. It reads "faith". The letters are hard to see in the photo because I added some Clear Rock Candy Distress Crack Paint to them.

That's it for me today ya'll. I'm excited today because I'm going to Panera Bread with my dear friend for lunch today, and out to dinner with my husband tonight. Could the day get any better?

Have a wonderful weekend, and the most Blessed Easter. He has risen indeed!!!

Merci

Happy Tuesday everyone. I hope April is off to a great start for you. Many are probably enjoying Spring Break right now. Our two kids are in college, so they had their break a month ago already. We're looking forward to Easter non-the-less.

I want to share a card today, that I made using some Waltzingmouse images. Claire has designed a beautiful set of images that work with the new Vintage Labels 25 by Spellbinders. I love this texted design with the flower. It's just charming. I added the "Merci" sentiment that is found in the Paris Nouveau set. The dp is from Prima's Nature Garden collection and it's complimentary Journaling Notecards. That sweet wooden button is also by Prima, and the butterfly push pin is from Webster's Pages.

A short post today.
Happy Stamping my friends!!
