Yoo Hoo!

This is my first....scrapling that is. A scrapling is the left over piece of cut cardstock. I've been told they're generally 1.25" to 2.25" in width and 5.25" high. I made mine 2.25" wide.

Edit to add: I forgot to tell you why I actually made this card. You see, this week's CCEE challenge was supposed to be a Scrapling. But since we changed the challenge on Frances for her birthday, I made a different owl card for her instead. I got buzzed by her and was told I wasn't getting by without making one....so here's my scrapling Hoots! Happy? *grin*

I received these darling "What a Hoot" (Clear Dollar Stamps) owl images from a stamping friend who I admire greatly! Her talent has no boundaries I tell ya!! She's an amazing stamper and just as sweet as she is talented. I had the honor of meeting her at CHA too. Woot! Ya'll probably already know her work, and if not, you're in for a treat. I colored the owls with copics and paper toled them. The flourish branches are Doodle Parts (Spellbinders). The flowers were made with a Carl CarlaCraft Punch, and the buttons are from the Porcelain (Basicgrey) collection.

See that little clip thingy on the side? Love that little bugger. It's a Paper Fastener by 7-gypsies and has prongs on the inside. All ya do is squeeze it together and it grips. Way cool and sweet. You can get it at Michelle's store: Stamper's Dream

Surprise Frances!! *grin*

Each Monday, I post a card that was made for a weekly challenge that a group of eight of us do together. We've been challenging each other for almost 2 years now, and Frances (StampOwl) has even set up a blog for us to share some of our contributions. Well, the 24th is her birthday, and since she's a day ahead of most of us, one of our members thought it'd be fun to turn the tables on her. You see, she's in charge of the challenges this month and has challenged us to make a Scrapling card. Well, since some of our members like to give the old *BUZZER* when challenges are not followed correctly, we thought it'd be fun to change her challenge. We all made Owl cards instead and conveniently forgot to send her the memo stating the change. *grin* Evil little monsters aren't we?

Okay... now onto the card details:
I started off creating my bg. I took a 5x5 square piece of Memoirs (Inque Boutique) dp and scored it from corner to corner. I then sewed along the score lines. Went back to my Scor-Pal and repeated the process from the other corner. I then scrunched the paper in my hand into a ball, unfolded it, and rubbed Brushed Corduroy (Ranger Distress Ink) over the edges and the wrinkles. I took another strip of dp and sewed horizontal lines across it and did the same with it as the first.

The Patterned Birds and Bugs owl (Inkadinkado) was stamped with Vintage Sepia (Versafine), heated, then colored with copics. I also added a touch of glitter with my Quickie Glue Pen and Ultrafine Transparent Glitter.

The flower was made with the 5-petal Flower Punch (Stampin' UP!), a Martha Stewart Flower Punch, and a Carl CarlaCraft flower Punch. All were ink distressed with Brushed Corduroy and wrinkled up a bit. The flourishes were diecut with the Doodle Parts die (Spellbinders). The papers I used were all Prismatics: Birchtone Light and Medium and Tawny Medium.

The sentiment was stamped with Vintage Sepia (Versafine) onto leftover handmade dp from a card I posted a few days ago HERE. It was then diecut and embossed with the Curved Rectangle Nestabilitey (Spellbinders), and popped up on the Labels II (Spellbinders) piece that I cut out of the Inque Boutique dp.

The ribbon is organdy and various fibers, and the lacy border was made with a Martha Stewart border punch. The metal photo corner is by We R Memory Keepers, and the teeny tiny Chocolate Pearl is by Kaisercraft.

CASEing Cindy for Stamper's Dream

The Stamper's Dream Design Team is CASEing one another this week for our monthly challenge. Each member was assigned another member to CASE. I was assigned Cindy Motherway (Mothermark on SCS). And here is my story...

1. How in the world is someone supposed to CASE the queen of creativity and out of the box thinking?
2. Black/White Polka dots? Me? Really now. Have you ever seen me make a card with black/white polka dots?
3. Creative writing is so not my strong point. I'm a straight to the point with the facts kinda girl...so writing a story? PAHLEASE!!
4. Teapots? Nope...it's coffee all the way for me.
5. Intimidated? Yep...that's me!!
6. Thanks Cindy, my friend, for the inspiration!! You're the BOMB!!

So, here goes: HERE is the card of hers that I cased.
I changed the colors, the image and the corners. I loved the way she centered the hummingbird in the scalloped circles, so of course I had to keep that the same. Didn't fold my scallops over though. That's all Cindy and her wonderfully creative idea.

I also had so much fun making my own dp on the last card, that I wanted to try it again with a different color and image. For the dp on this card, I just rubbed Milled Lavender and Old Paper (Ranger Distress Ink) onto Simply Smooth White (Prism) cardstock. I then stamped the Filigree (Impression Obsession) image onto the paper with the Milled Lavender again.

The owl from the Patterned Birds and Bugs Set (Inkadinkado) was stamped with Tuxedo Black (Memento), onto Natural White (Neenah) cardstock and was colored with copics. I colored the dots on the wing with a Sakura Stardust pen to give them just a hint of sparkle.

The corners were made with a Martha Stewart border punch, and the embossed background was made with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

House warming gift

Friends of ours had a House Warming party this past weekend, and I needed a *warming* gift. Of course, when I think homey, I think of candles. Most days I'll have at least 3 candles burning. I love the warm, cozy feel they bring to a home.

Well, Yankee Candle did most of the work for me on this project. Their box was already decorated with these warm colors. So I just added the band, medallion, and scalloped card to the top.

For the Medallion, I used the Harmony Classic Circle Stamper II Emsemble (JustRite).



For the Card Topper, I used my Harmony Rectangular Set with the Curlz and Brayton Fonts.



For all the shapes...well, that's where my Nestabilities and Cuttlebug come in handy. Rarely do I make a project without using one or both of them. I also used a hole punch for the scallops and the Horizontal Slot Punch (Stampin' Up!) for the ribbon. The band was made with a Martha Stewart border punch.

CCEE Sketch with Handmade dp

It's time once again for a CCEE challenge. Frances has given us a sketch to work with. Click HERE to see it and what the other girls have done with this sketch. We'd love to have you play along also. Head on over to the CCEE Stampers blog for instructions on how to do just that!!

I thought it would be fun to make my own dp with this gorgeous Filigree Fantasy set by Verve.
I also tried a (new to me) smooth white paper, that I'm now in love with. It's called Simply Smooth White and it's made by Prism. Yummy stuff!! I've used my copics on it too, and it's wonderful with them also. But, for this project, I took my Old Paper (Ranger Distress Ink) pad and rubbed it directly on the paper. Then I used two Filigree designs and stamped them onto the paper with the same Old Paper Distress ink. Here's what the paper looked like and the images I used.Since the Verve images are clear, it's very easy to line them up.

I finished off the sketch with a Verve Plain Jane: "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10


The Crocheted Ribbon is May Arts, and the flower was created with the SU 5-petal flower punch, and Martha Stewart flower punches, along with an Anna Griffin decorative brad.

Fishin' for Ed and a Blog Candy winner...

It's my husband Ed's birthday next week. In fact, he's a St. Patrick's Day baby. Well, he loves to go deep sea fishing, and always comes back with a load of fish...but, if he lake fishes, he always, and I mean always, catches everything but fish. Thus the sneaker in this card. Isn't this Bear-ly Fishing (Our Craft Lounge) bear the cutest? I thought he was perfect for my DH.

I stamped him with Versamark onto watercolor paper and embossed him with Detail Black ep (Judikins). I then colored him with Adirondack Dye Ink Reinkers (listed below in the supplies).
I added stickles to the water, ink distressed the edges with Frayed Burlap (Ranger Distress Ink)...which Michelle now carries in her store!! Woo-Hoo!! You really should go check out all the Distress Inks...I ADORE working them. I use them on the majority of my cards.

These colors are not my usual style. Pretty bright and busy isn't it?

But I'm happy with the outcome for three main reasons:
1. I love this darling image - Willow Umbrella Girl (Whiff of Joy)
2. I love the papers - Bloom and Grow *Bloom* (My Mind's Eye)
3. I love the Easy Brad Maker Kit (Chatterbox)

I colored this sweet little girl with copics and popped up the umbrella and her arm with dimensional tape. I then sewed around all the edges of my panels after ink distressing them with either Stream or Lettuce (Adirondack Dye Ink), or Dried Marigold (Ranger Distress Ink). The corner piece is a Cuttlebug corner die, and I added a few dew drops too. The ribbon is Making Memories and American Craft.

I made the inside sentiment with the Harmony Rectangular Stamper Set, along with the Trompe Script and Brayton Fonts:
Okay...while at CHA with Michelle Rodgers (Owner of Stamper's Dream), back in January, one of our favorite finds was Chatterbox's Easy Brad Maker Kit. Not only does it come with the brads and epoxy circles, but it comes with each size circle punch needed for the 3 different brad sizes. Now, before you ask, these punches are not regular sizes. You can't find them anywhere else. But I thought they'd come in handy for those *in between* sizes that I never seem to have...ya know?

Anyway...let me show you how I made my *smile* brad.

Remember: At any time, you can click on the photo for a larger view, or click on the bold underlined words to take you directly to the product in Michelle's store: Stamper's Dream.

First, I designed my sentiment using my Harmony Rectangle Stamper Set , the Trompe Script Font and the C-45 small letters (JustRite), and stamped it with Tuxedo Black (memento) onto Sunflower Light (Prismatic).
I then punched out the sentiment with the middle sized punch, and ink distressed it with Dried Marigold (Ranger Distress Ink).


Then you lift the same size circle adhesive protector, lay the circle on top, rub gently and lift again. Your circle now has the perfectly sized adhesive circle on the back.

Just lay it in the brad center. Perfect fit.

Finally, lay the middle size epoxy circle on top. That's it. There are so many possibilities.

Floral Elgance and blog candy...

I love flowers!! Love them!! Basically I just love nature...birds, flowers, clouds (as you probably noticed a couple of posts ago), sunsets, waterfalls...yep, nature. So when I saw this new Inkadinkado set Beauty Stems from Here, I had to have it! You can get it too from Michelle's store Stamper's Dream. She has oodles of new stamps from a variety of companies, along with papers, ribbon, and new fun embellishments too.

For this card, I stamped the image twice onto Neenah Solar White with Tuxedo Black (memento), and colored it with copics. I then cut out the flowers and leaves and popped them up with dimensional tape. I thought the Ivory Crocheted Ribbon along with the irridescent ribbon would make a good combination with a buckle slider, so I added that above the scalloped border created with a Martha Stewart punch.

The gorgeous sentiment is from the Wonderful Wishes set by Verve. They have the most fabulous sentiments in the most wonderful variety of fonts.

CCEE features Knightrone

This is my favorite challenge done by the CCEE group each month. This month Frances (StampOwl) chose Knightrone from SCS (Splitcoaststampers) to feature. We were to make a card with a knight on it and mail the finished card to Jesse.

I don't own any knight images, so Frances was kind enough to send this one. I don't know the company it's by, but I'll edit this post as soon as I find out.

The poppies are blooming!!

The poppies are blooming all over the place here in central California, inspiring me to make this card with one of Anna Wight's gorgeous poppies from her Blossoms and Butterflies sets (Whipper Snapper Designs). The sentiment is from her Blooming Expressions set (Whipper Snapper Designs). The poppy is colored with copics and is 3 layers.

I also added a bit of glitter to make the poppie sparkle and pop.

No stamping...just clouds

I love nature!! And one of my favorite things to observe in nature is God's creativity with clouds. All these pictures were taken within about 5 minutes of each other in the East (over the mountains, overlooking our neighbors dairy), and in the west, overlooking our dairy.

I realize these aren't cards, or stamped projects, but I just had to share these artistic creations by the master artist.

The first one was in the east, and the last two were in the west.

Hallelujah!!

I was inspired to make this card the other day after seeing a photo in our church of a man with his arms raised in praise in between two torn black pieces. It reminded me of Christ's resurrection and his being the light in the darkness. The back piece is actually in a type of shadow box. I raised the black panel and the frame.

The subtle hills and sky were created with Pastels (chalks) and torn paper, and the black pieces were edged with white craft ink. The frame was ink distressed with Brushed Corduroy (Ranger Distress Ink). The crosses were colored with Close to Cocoa (Stampin' Up!) markers.

I made the sentiment by using my trusty Harmony Rectangular Stamping set with the Brayton Font. I finished off the card with Black Pearls (Kaisercraft).

What's the dirt?

I just got these Our Craft Lounge images in the mail, and set right to work. They are adorable and so much fun to work with. I used images from 4 different sets. And Michelle is carrying quite the variety of OCL sets! Check them out HERE!!

I first stamped this *Pat the bad dog* image onto Neenah Solar White, masked him and made the wall with the stone image from the*Whispy Patterns* set and Slate (Adirondack Dye Ink). The little dog bones are from the *Pat the good dog* set, and the chewed up shoe and tipped dog dish are from the *Pat the Dawg House* set. See how wonderfully they all work together? Such fun.

They're all colored with copics, and the sign and main image were diecut and embossed with the Long Rectangle Nestabilities (Spellbinders) and my Cuttlebug.

All the edges were ink distressed with Walnut Stain, (Ranger Distress Ink) and the dp is Old World (Kaisercraft)

The dots? My favorite!! They're called Candy Dots (Pebbles, Inc.), and they're sticky...no holes need to be punched!! And they have a nice matte finish.

The curvy border on my brown panel was cut out with the largest Curved Rectangles Nestabilities (Spellbinders), but unfortunately most of it got covered with my vertical panel...*grin*.

All the panels are matted with Black Prismatics, and the card base is Suede Brown Light (Prismatics)...Prismatic papers are my paper of choice. I LOVE the texture, and it distresses beautifully with light or dark inks!!

Where flowers bloom, so does hope.

I am so grateful for sketch challenges. Sometimes, all that is needed is a little direction. That was so the case for today. I made this card according to the SCS Sketch Challenge found HERE. I colored the flower from Anna Wight's Blossoms & Butterflies (Whipper Snapper Designs), with copics and added some ultrafine glitter. The sentiment is from the set Blooming Expressions (Anna Wight - Whipper Snapper Designs) The rest is pretty self explanatory.

Labled Bird Cage

It's a new month, and that means CCEE has a new Challenger. Frances (StampOwl) has come up with some wonderful challenges for us each week. This week we were to use labels. I did an emboss resist with the Porcelain Aviary images from the clear Basicgrey set, that I got from Stamper's Dream. I wish I had colored the cage a complimentary color, but I was pretty tired after returning home from a trip to Seattle, and didn't feel like starting over. Thus the cage of blues...*grin* It's colored with copics and the wires are all sparkly with Clear Ultrafine glitter.

For the labels, I stamped the Porcelain Aviary images with Versamark, and Clear embossed them. I then took my Tattered Rose (Ranger Distress Ink), and rubbed it directly on the labels giving it a colorwash, shabby look.

The lattice in between is a Martha Stewart border punch, and the butterflies are vellum colored with copics with a touch of glitter in the centers.

I made the sentiment with the 25 pt Trompe Script letters (JustRite) and the Harmony Rectangular Stamper Set. The flower button is from the Tres Jolie line of My Mind's Eye, and the organdy Ribbon is Stampin' Up!.
