Alcohol Lift-Ink ~ Big Sexy Leaves ~ Power Poppy

Happy Friday y'all!!!  It's that time of week again.  Have you tried the new Alcohol Lift-Ink by Ranger yet?  I purchased it awhile back and haven't had the chance to try it out until yesterday.  And oh my is it fun!!!  It's magical!

These two cards are super CAS, but nothing about creating them was.  I have never used Yupo cardstock before, or Alcohol Lift-Ink.  And I haven't used my Alcohol inks in probably a decade.  So, I had to experiment first.  To learn how to use Yupo and the new Alcohol Lift-Ink, I watched Tim Holtz's video tutorial found HERE.  It's full of useful information!!

After seeing this magical ink, I knew Power Poppy's Big Sexy Leaves Background stamp would work beautifully with this technique!!  And since I am SO READY FOR FALL, I started by creating an inky background with Fall colors.  I used up my whole pack of Yupo and have some pieces that mixed the blues/greens along with the Fall colors and I love the mix, but I didn't let things dry properly (learning curve), so I ended up using my monochromatic pieces.  I plan to try my hand at mixing colors again though.  The leaf and butterfly were diecut from a couple of the other practice pieces.

Now, I realize there are a few of you crazy people that are still trying to hold on to summer, so I included a summery palette too.  I love how versatile this Big Sexy Leaves background stamp is.

The sentiment is from the Power Poppy set Dynamic Duos: Peonies and Tulips.  I wanted a bold script so it would pop over the busy background.

That's it for my projects today, but there are a lot more projects for you to be inspired by.  Check out what the following Bloomies have to share today:

Kindness is the Way ~ Power Poppy

Hello creative friends!!!  I hope your Friday is off to a beautiful start!!  We are finally cooling down in the Central Valley of California and it is soooooo welcomed!!  Now, we just need to get all the fires under control.  We are not in any threat of fires because we are in the center of farming country, but since we live in a valley, all the smoke and smog settles here.  We have a conundrum.  Rain and breezes would be nice to get rid of the smoke, but would be horrible for our crops.  *sigh*  Anyway...we are back in the 90's and we are even looking forward to some days in the actual 80's.  I don't even know if I remember what that feels like.

On to my card, which is what you dropped by for in the first place.  I'm a bit late to the party with this fabulous (FREE for always) digital image, called Kindness is the Way, that Power Poppy released a little over a month ago.  Gerberas are one of my absolute favorite flowers.  And there is such a variety of colors to them that this image has unlimited possibilities.

I thought it would be fun to just have color in the centers and sentiment, so I started by coloring the entire background with my Black Copic 100.

I then colored the individual flowers using grays and blues.  I colored the letters on a separate piece of X-Press It cardstock, cut them out and popped them up over the main piece in which I colored the letters all black so they would have a shadow when popped.

That's it for today's project.  Stop by the following Bloom Brigade Blogs for some more Power Poppy inspiration!!

Hops and Barley ~ Power Poppy

Hello, hello, hello!!!!  I hope you all had a great week and are looking forward to an even better weekend!!!  I'm looking forward to a "no pressure" kind of weekend.  No plans...nothing demanding...just going with the flow and getting done what gets done.  Does that make sense?  I'm not putting any pressure on myself.

We did, however, just get done celebrating my son's 28th birthday, thus the "Beer card".  Power Poppy's Hops and Barley digital stamp set could not be more perfect for him.  He is a beer "connoisseur"... according to this family.  He LOVES craft beer.  So much so, that he has just finished designing and building a fenced in garden plot to grow hops.  He did offer to share part of it with his wife to grow some herbs and vegetables though.  What a guy right?  ;)  I, myself, thinks beer tastes like what I would imagine gasoline would taste like.  No matter how much I've tried (and I have tried different brands...even ice cold), I just can't develop a taste for it.  So, I don't get this whole "craft beer craze".

All that being said, I really enjoyed coloring this no-line version of Hops and Barley.  I love Marcella's creative mind.  What a perfect set for Beer lovers!!

I just used Copics, and left it in the diecut framing after cutting and sponged some Antique Linen and Pumice Stone Distress Inks around the borders to highlight the image even more.

Below is a close-up of the colors.

That's it for my project this week.

Gifts From The Sea ~ Power Poppy

http://powerpoppy.blogspot.com/search/label/Power%20%26%20Spark%20Challenge
Hello my creative friends!!  It's been awhile since I've posted here, and I'm excited to share a new project inspired by the new Power and Spark Challenge hosted by my dear friend Cindy Lawrence.  In fact, I do believe my card is heavily inspired by her card.  I didn't even think about it until I was photographing it.  What can I say...she's inspirational.

I used the new digital set called Gifts from the Sea because it fit so perfectly with the room I was inspired by.  I decorated my guest bathroom with plums and grays with some natural elements for decor.  The "vase" in the left corner of the vanity is actually a rock, with barnacles naturally attached to it, that I purchased as a souvenir from Tofino, Canada.   I added the silk accents later.

The shells in the bowl below were all collected from a beach in Sanibel Island, Florida.   You can see them in the mirror reflection.

Here's a close-up of the image.  I used a white gel pen to add some dots to the gray shell and Plumeria centers, as well as the word "ink".

That about sums up my project.  But you really must check out what the following Bloom Brigaders have created to inspire you today:

Distress Oxide Succulents ~ Power Poppy

Hello and happy Friday!!!  I have a card to share with you today that doesn't use Copics, Watercolor brushes, or any pencils, and it was sooooo much fun!!!  To make the flowers, all you need is Distress Oxide Inks, a positioning tool (I used a Misti), a waterbottle (I used a Distress Sprayer), and your choice of stamps.  I used Power Poppy's Succulent Singles set with coordinating Succulent Singles dies.

It's a pretty easy process if you have a Misti to work with because the stamp stays put and you can realign everything lickety-split.    The stamp images I used are clear, so I would be able to line them up with a stamping block too, but my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I started by inking up one of the succulent images with the Distress Oxide color I wanted for my base (the one that is going to spread out a bit and not give a defined line).  I spritzed it thoroughly 3x, stamped it, and dried it with a heat tool. (the ink travels a bit)  I then inked the image up again with a different color.  Depending on how defined I wanted the lines, I either spritzed the image once, or not at all, and stamped directly over the now dried image and used my heat tool again.  Lastly, I diecut them all out and arranged them how you see here.

Before I go, I wanted to make sure you've seen all the new fantastic new Digital images Power Poppy released this week.  I haven't had an opportunity to work with them yet (we're camping right now), but let me tell you, I'm "chomping-at-the-bit".  Marcella's vignettes are like not other.  Nothing compares.  They are all a complete delight.  I hope you'll give them a try.  There is even a free Digital Gerbera set called Kindness is the Way, and IT...IS...F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!  It's being offered by Kit and Clowder as a free coloring class too.

Thanks for visiting!!  I hope you are having a a blessed weekend!!
  Happy Stamping!

Irresistible Peonies Just Because ~ Power Poppy

Hello, hello, hello!!!  Boy is summer in full swing here with changes all around.  I haven't posted for awhile because my world has been turned upside down, but it's all for the better.  It just takes some readjusting.  3 weeks ago, we got a new family member named Teddy.  He's an itty bitty 6lb Shih Poo, and he is a little ball of precious energy.  And on July 3, I became a Grandma (Nana) for the first time to a very precious little girl named Adalyn Kate.  And, yes, I'm one of those Nana's....she is PERFECT in every way!!!  My son and daughter-in-law are incredible and we are all so very blessed!!

So, now for what you really came here to see...This card has been in the making for 2 weeks...seriously.  I have started, started over, and started over again.  I think I've truly forgotten how to color.  There are parts of this no-line colored card that I'm over the moon happy with (the leaves...I so struggle with leaves), and some, *sigh*...I wish I could do over.  But y'all know how it is with no-line coloring, it takes extra time, so once I was half way in, I was "ALL THE WAY" in.  So, I know I've added too many lines to many of the Peony petals, but hopefully the person I give it to will be able to overlook the unnaturalness of some of them.  YIKES!!

I used the new Power Poppy digital image called Irresistible Peonies and paired it with the sentiment from another new digital image called Azaleas Forever.  The image is colored with Copics, and masked off while I splattered some Champagne Gold, and Black mixed with Champagne Gold, watered down Acrylic paint.  I like the subtle sparkle.

That's it for me...but people, we have a new Power & Spark Challenge being hosted by our dear, dear Julie, and it's a clever one!!  All you have to do, is make a project that was inspired by one of the techniques used in one of the Inspired Me Monday posts.  How fun is that?!?!?!?!

Power Poppy Hop ~ The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge

http://www.thedailymarker.com/2018/06/day-1-the-daily-marker-30-day-coloring-challenge/

Hello, hello, hello!!!  I am hopping along with some super creative and fun Power Poppy Design Team members today to encourage participation in Kathy's Racoosin's 30 day Coloring Challenge.  This challenge is designed to encourage you to color something (anything), with whatever type medium you choose, for 10 minutes each day for the next 30 days. I color most every day, but I always forget, or am too shy, to share my progress.  It's something I am working on.

I actually totally forgot to take some progressive shots of the progress of this card, and I'm sorry I did.  It was quite the process for how it got here.  I will show you, however, the original finished card at the end of this post.  I kept looking at it, and looking at it, and something felt off.  I asked my trustworthy daughter (she is ALWAYS honest if I ask her what she thinks about a project), and she didn't like that the heart matched the background.

Before I get more into the story, let me explain this card first.  I started by creating the background with Power Poppy's Big Sexy Leaves background stamp.  I inked it up randomly with 3 different Distress Oxide inks:  Forest Moss, Gathered Twigs, and Fired Brick.  I then liberally spritzed it with water and stamped it onto watercolor paper using my Misti.  The Misti was a handy tool because after I heat set the wet image, with my heat tool, I was able to stamp perfectly over the watercolored image with Tuxedo Black Memento ink giving it the look you see here.

Next, I colored up a variety of flowers, from the new Power Poppy set called Abundant Petals, and arranged them in a bouquet.  I had colored the open tulip 3 different ways, but none of them made it to the bouquet because I just didn't think the colors worked together.

After arranging the flowers the way I wanted them, I adhered them to the card and added a sweet little sentiment flag using a sentiment from the Abundant Petals set.

Oh, and I should add...I used Copics for all the coloring, and added E31 to all the flowers and leaves to tone down the colors so they would flow better with the muted background.

Here's a look at the card before I changed the heart:

So, that sums up my coloring project for today.  I hope you are inspired to get coloring!!

Before I include the links to the Power Poppy designers participating in today's hop, I have one more thing I want to share with you.

I thought you might like to know that Marcella is offering a special on the Burst of Kindness Stamp set and the digital Spring Meadow Bouquet.  It's a sweet deal!!

Precious Baby ~ Power Poppy

Hello my awesome creative friends!!  I hope you have had a wonderful week and are looking forward to a nice weekend.  I know I am!

http://powerpoppy.blogspot.com/2018/06/june-challenge-lets-go-round-round.html
Since today is the first of the month, we have a new Power and Spark Challenge hosted by our very own sweet Bloom Brigader, Stacy!  She is challenging us to go "Round and Round".  She wants us to add some round corners, edges, or a complete round (circle).  I have scallops "around" my frame...hopefully that counts? ;)

Anyway, I have a fun shaker card to share with you today using Power Poppy's new Precious Baby clear stamp set.  Isn't that lamb planter just precious?!?!?!  I thought it would be charming and fun to make it a shaker.  I created a background, to ground the image, with a bead board wall, and gray distressed counter.  I used my score board for the wall, and Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide (Ranger) for the base.  I masked off my stamped image before sponging the Distress Oxide.  The image itself, was colored with Copics.

For the frame, I diecut 6 layers using Pretty Pink Posh's Scallop frames.  I glued them all together with a layer of acetate between the top and second layer.

That sums up my project for today.  Be sure to check out what the following uber talented Bloom Brigaders have to share with you:

Christine Okken
