Wow! It's been awhile since I've posted here. I'm sorry for the lack of consistency, but in my defense, it's been a busy summer, like most of you experience. I had to fly to the Midwest for a wedding only to return and have my son and his fiance (they both live out of state) visit for a week. And since she was in the area, we put on a Bridal Shower for her. That meant creating gifts and decorating, along with sightseeing since she'd never been to the area before. I'm exhausted, but we had the most fabulous time!
So, now on to my card for this week's Power Poppy Peep of the Week Challenge. I chose to use one of the succulents from the Sassy Succulents set. I love the encouraging sentiments Marcy has included. My daughter is quite independent in her appearance and view on life, and I embrace it, although others don't always accept her uniqueness. She has bright red hair, and likes unique earring cuffs. (She only has one piercing in each ear.) I think she's just beautiful, but others can be a bit harsh in their judgements. Ironically, she is a Church Music Coordinator major in college. And Christians can be some of the hardest judges. But, one of the many beauties of God, is that he gives us free will, and that gives us liberty to express ourselves in our own way, and others are allowed to form their own opinions. And that's okay.
I made this card for my daughter this week to celebrate her, and to let her know I love her just the way she is. The sentiment says: "You're Special! Be yourself!! I LOVE that. God made each of us unique. And we may not understand how others do their make-up, dress, decorate their yards or houses, or even their own bodies. And that's okay. God loves us, and we need to love ourselves the way he created us!!
Okay, enough of my soap box. ;) I don't usually share personal stuff much on my blog. I'm pretty shy that way. But this card is special to me, and I wanted to explain a bit why this set is so near to my heart.
I colored the succulent and pot with Copics, cut it out, and adhered it to decorative paper. I also included texture in my card. I was inspired by yesterday's "Ways To Use It" Challenge (WT487) over at Splitcoaststampers.com I embossed the background panel with the Bricks and Bark M-Bossibilities folder by Spellbinders. I then sanded it and added some depth with Vintage Photo Ranger Distress Ink. I also added texture by using a Copper Pearl Pen on the Hinge, and the leaves are not glued down, so they flow a bit freely from the card.
That's it for me today. Be sure to visit the other Bloom Brigade Blogs for some more inspiration!

ReplyDeleteHope things are a little more relaxing for you in the next weeks lady :) Lots of good stuff to celebrate, but it sure can be exhausting :)
Tosh, I think the way you've approached this card is as special as can be, and it really touched me to hear that you made this for your daughter. It sounds like you've raised a woman who knows who she is, and is not content to go along with the crowd. Please give your independent-minded, bright-red-headed, music-loving daughter a BIG high five from me! <3
ReplyDeleteTosh this is so soothing and pretty. She is going to love every inch of it and you as her mom. Big hugs...
ReplyDeleteWell, firstly your card is gorgeous - fab colouring, love the 'hinge' accent and the texture on the DP is fab!! Secondly, that you made this for your daughter is so beautiful and that she is who she is and she shouldn't be put into a box because others think she should! Sounds like this redhead is meant to shine!
ReplyDeleteI am sure your daughter will be very touched by this, excellent coloring and just love that hinge!!
ReplyDeleteWow you have been busy but sounds like fun busy :)
Oh, Tosh, I love this card so MUCH! It's one of my favorites I've seen with this cute set and makes me want to bring it out to play again. I hear you about the busy summer, though, and stamping playtime is hard to come by. Also, kudos to your daughter for doing her own thing. She is simply creating art with her own appearance and there is NOTHING wrong with that. To be unique and colorful is wonderful. The world needs color.
ReplyDeleteCame out of hibernation just to say how much I love your card and so agree with what you said. Your sweet girl is such a beautiful young woman inside and out! Hugs to her for having the confidence and wisdom to be her own woman!
ReplyDeleteAh, sweet friend, I LOVED reading your "story behind the card"! You have raised a bright, beautiful, and independent young lady, who knows who she is, knows her place with her Savior, and has one AWESOME mamma! Who could ask for more than that?! Your card is unique and absolutely beautiful! Love the subtle brick background with a touch of sponging, the awesome hinges, and the way you've framed out the sentiment...really fabulous! (Just like YOU!) xo
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons I follow your blog is because your cards are so beautiful and unique. Sounds like you've raised a daughter to be just like your cards--beautiful and unique. Good for both of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous card for a daughter from her momma. Society is so hard on our kids. Makes my heart hurt sometimes for my own girls. Your card is beautiful. Sounds like you have had a great visit.
ReplyDeleteOh Tosh... love all the texture and layers on this beauty! Great colour palette and card design.
ReplyDeleteOkay.. you have me crying over here! I love how you took the time to explain why this card is so special. I too have a girl who is unique and independent (well, you know the winkin' stinker!) -- and what a beautiful thing to have a girl who is all her own regardless of what other folks think. Beautiful creation Ms. Tosh and beautiful story! I need to go grab a tissue now!!!!
