ODBD For the Love of Crosses

Now on to the details about the card I created today.  I used the set Never Give up, along with the Grunge Cross die.

I started off by making the tag on the inside.  I made this card for my daughter while she's miles (and states) away at college, so a heart needed to be included for sure.  :)  I started by inking up the background with the Ranger Distress Inks Worn Lipstick and Scattered Straw.  I then diecut a heart (Spellbinders), out of copy paper and laid laid it over the ink distressed cardstock.  I then took Perfect Snow (PTI) pigmented ink and brushed it away from the heart.  It gave it that pink glow around it.  After that I added so Vintage photo in to all the edges.  The cross image was stamped with Smokey Gray (Versafine), as well as the sentiments.

I wanted to include a metal zipper (Prima), so I ripped some of my decorative paper ~ Sweet Disposition (Cosmo Cricket), and added the zipper with some Tombow Mono Metal Liquid Glue.

I framed the sentiment by adding the same inks to the Decorative Labels 22 die (Spellbinders), and added some Sheer Shimmer Sparkle (Imagine Crafts), and a button  and pearls.  You can't see it in the photos, but the Seam Binding ribbon was covered with the Sheer Sparkle Shimmer too.  I just ran it through the puddles on my craft mat after spraying the cross and sentiment panels.  See the little Hexagon brad?  Love that it says "Faith" so I included it on a little tab that I cut using my Silhouette.

Waltzingmouse Easter Card and Camping photos

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile.  We took a small vacation and went camping for a few days.  I have a few pictures to share after my Easter card.

Waltzingmouse has a fabulously versatile set called A Good Egg.  It's handy for Easter, but not limited to it.  In fact, I have a project that I will be sharing April 1 using this set in a different way.  But for today, it's all about Easter.  

First of all, I stamped the eggs and their decorations with the following VersaMagic inks:  Pink Petunia, Spring Pansy, Thatched Straw and Aspen Mist.

I diecut the oval shape (Floral Ovals and Standard Ovals dies ~ Spellbinders), and layered it over an embossed panel using one of the new Spellbinders M-Bossabilities called Basket Weave.  I first inked it with Latte pigment ink (amuse), and ran it through my embossing machine.

Lastly, I used an Ice White Pearl Pen and glitter to add some sparkly pearls to the Oval border, as well as to the Resplendent Rectangle diecut background pieces, and a Sparkly diecut Exotic Small Butterfly (Cheery Lynn Designs).

Oh, I also added a small little grassy border inside the oval frame using a Fiskars Grass Border Punch.

That's it for my Easter card, now let me share a few fun photos.

This is Lake Lopez in Arroyo Grande California.  It's a beautiful campground filled with an abundant array of wildlife:  Woodpeckers, Deer, Wild Turkey, Quail, Racoons, Egrets, Herons, and an occasional skunk.

The woodpeckers make holes in the surrounding trees and stuff acorns in them for the winter.  They're quite entertaining to watch.

There is also an abundance of wildflowers in the spring.  Here's a picture of a Southern Shooting Star.  I have to apologize for the lack of clarity.  I didn't have my tripod with me, and my hands aren't as steady as they used to be.  But you can see the beauty and uniqueness of this elegant flower.

 We visited a local Ostrich and Emu feeding farm too.  They're all characters and fun to watch.  They all have quite the large attitudes and are actually hard to photograph because they're always moving and walking in front of each other.  The first picture is of a male ostrich.

 

Here's a headshot of an Emu.  He doesn't look very trustworthy to me... (grin).

I had a bunch of full shots, but like I mentioned, they were all jockeying for positions, so I wasn't happy with the photos.

 I chose to use the set Quote Collection 3.  I loved the sentiment "Prayer is the key to heaven, but faith unlocks the door." by Don Gibson.  I thought it would be fun to include a doorplate and key with it, and tuck the sentiment behind the locked panel on a tag.

Here they are separate.  Isn't the sentiment so beautifully fonted?  And I love the sweet little key insert.

I chose to use the set The Light of Life.  I fell in love with the lantern image the minute I laid eyes on it.  It's so rustic and charming.  I stamped it with Versamark onto watercolor paper, embossed it with black embossing powder and colored it with Tombow markers.

I used a new Spellbinders die set called A2 Curved Borders one and completely cut away the edges of the front panel of the card.  I hope you can see it better opened a bit.   I then used a couple of EK Success Border punches for the top and sewed in some burlap string.

The day has finally arrived!!  All three of these fabulous sets:  A Good Egg, Folk Art Labels No. 25, and Folk Art Medallion are available for purchase at the Waltzingmouse Stamps store.  I have to say,  the Folk Art Medallion set that I used for this project has unlimited possibilities. A Short while back, I spotted a Paper Book Gift Box on Pinterest.  The designer is Wenche, and she does beautiful, inspiring work.  Here's Wenche's Tutorial.  Her books are just stunning!  I thought Claire's new images would look gorgeous as the cover so I went to work on making this sweet gift box.   I converted the accordion folded pages' measurements into inches since I'm terrible with metric measurements:  2 sheets of 4.75" x 9.5" and 2 sheets of 4" x 9.5" scored at every 1/2".  I scored every inch, turned the paper over and scored every other inch.  That way the accordion folds easier for me.  Just a little tip.   I stamped the book cover using the Folk Art Medallion set with Latte ink (a muse), but Claire also has designed digi papers with a similar design now.  How cool is that!!

Here's a look at the side.  I added two grungeboard hinges underneath the top panel, and glued it over the top.  Thinking back...it might have been helpful to sew the hinges to the base for a more secure hold because those hinges put up a fight against the glue. 

On the back, I included my "signature" (printed because my name's so long it's hard to fit when written), using one of the signature images from the Waltzingmouse set Make Your Mark. I love this set of images.  There's a variety of styles to fit whatever project you can think of.

 It's hard to see, but the Kraft cardstock was embossed with Cuttlebug's Tiny Mosaic Embossing Folder.  After which I added Versamark to the entire book cover and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.  Lastely I sanded the whole thing for a more aged appearance.

I used Versamark, and embossed the Folk Art Labels No. 25 Frame with Aged Silver Embossing Enamel by Stampendous.  I wanted to give the book label an aged look.  I also added the Aged Silver to the diecut corner embellishments (Antique Frame and Accents by Spellbinders), and brushed them with some Stone Gray Staz On to make them a little rougher looking.  They were also sanded a bit to soften the shine.

I added gold to the page edges using a 18K Gold Leafing Pen by Krylon.

And finally, here's what the inside looks like.  A perfect little opening for a thoughtful little gift.

Waltzingmouse March Release Prieviews ~ Day 3

Hello everyone, and welcome to Day 3 of our Waltzingmouse Stamps Previews.  I hope you've been enjoying all these wonderfully inspirational peeks that the DT is providing.  Today we're sharing the set Folk Art Medallion.  This set is full of wonderful small images to compliment one fairly large medallion, along with some beautifully fonted sentiments.  This has to be one of my all time favorites.  Which might become obvious to you since I have 4 designs to share with you today.
For this first card, I stamped the large medallion with Cloud White Versamagic in the bottom right corner.  I then added some washi tape and finished it with an Onyx Black stamped circle punched medallion centered.  I added the same medallion to the top left stamped again in Cloud White (VersaMagic), and added a little tag with a Red Magic (VersaMagic) Flourish.

For this next card, I just stamped one of the leaf images with Versamark over Vintage Cream cardstock (PTI), and ink distressed it with Antique Linen (Ranger Distress Ink).  The tag sentiment is also from this set.

To show the versatility of this set, I used a variety of colors with some sentiments from the WMS set Say it Loud, along with another border punch (EK Success).  While shopping at the coast earlier this week with my dear friend Laurie Schmidlin, we noticed a a lot of turquoise and Royal Blue color combos on dishes, fabrics, frames, etc.  So I wanted to try my hand with these colors using this Folk Art Medallion set.

Lastly, I combined the Folk Art Medallion "Thank You" sentiment with some images from yesterday's peek Folk Art Labels No. 25.  I think they make charming flowers.

eta: You no doubt noticed quite a few of these flowers yesterday.  Obviously a lot of us had the same vision.  :)

Waltzingmouse March Release Previews ~ Day 2

Waltzingmouse March Release Previews ~ Day 1

Welcome to the first day of the Waltzingmouse March Blog Hop!  I'm so excited to share these new sets with you!  Today we're featuring a charming set called A Good Egg.  And Claire has designed the images so that they can be used for Easter and year round.  I made my first card an Easter one by using the Rocking and Rolling technique with two inks for the sunburst styled egg and framed it using Claire's Opera Tag images and die.  Of course I had to include a chocolate bunny.  

I went a little silly for my second card.  I was making bacon and eggs for my husband and remembered one of the sentiments for this set:  "Keep your sunnyside up", and thought why not make and egg?  I just free-handed the egg white and punched out a yellow piece of cardstock and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I know pretty corny...but I just couldn't resist.
