Hello creative friends. I have a fun little card to share with you today, and there's actually a story behind the idea.
Every Monday thru Saturday, at 9:00 am my Mother-in-Law serves coffee and cookies to anyone who stops by. My MIL and FIL have a shed on their farm with a large picnic table, along with other tables and chairs, for the overflow. It's decorated with fun pictures, various ribbons (from horse shows), and a wood burning stove for the winter months. Business men, salesmen, bankers, politicians, friends, and many others know that if you want to meet with most of the guys (6 brothers), go to coffee, and you will catch at least half of them there on any given day. Let me tell you, there are always interesting stories to be heard and told too. People from all over the United States, and even other countries have stopped in for coffee, or for a tour of my Father-in-law's antique carriage collection. He raises Friesian horses as do many of his sons.
So, you're probably wondering what this has to do with my "box of doughnuts". Many visitors bring doughnuts to coffee. And for family members' birthdays, doughnuts, or a cake, are brought in. Now, my Father-in-law is diabetic, so I thought I'd make him a "sugar free" box of doughnuts for his birthday this year, using one of Waltzingmouse's newsest sets called Dinky Doughnuts. They are super fun, and as you can see, you can decorate them in many a fun way.
I used all VersaMagic pigmented ink because I wanted to add some Clear Embossing Powder to the "frostings". I used my Misti to line up the different doughnut layers and had fun decorating them with different frostings and sprinkles. I did find, that for me, layering them worked better if I stamped the frosting first, then the border. I also embossed the frosting before adding the "cake border". I then cut them out free handed and created a mini-box attached to a card. It's 3 1/4" x 5 1/2". I cut the window out using one of Waltzingmouse's newest dies called Stitched Rectangle. I like how it has the stitching on the negative piece, not just the diecut piece. It worked beautifully to give my window a finished edge. I then added some Acetate to the window, and woila....a mini-doughnut box. Here's a straight on shot so you can see the doughnuts without a glare.
I added the Happy Birthday sentiment from Waltzingmouse's Man of the Hour set, and that was it. My FIL is not a frou-frou kind of guy. He's a seasoned farmer. No frills, nothing fancy...thus the rather plain box. I think the doughnuts pop though.
